Why the Mid Cage for the Crafter?

The 2017+ VW Crafter introduced a significantly larger and more practical load bay than its predecessor. The CR35 and CR50 variants both have substantial depth from bulkhead to rear — the mid cage at 2,500mm is sized to provide full coverage without leaving gaps that an opportunistic thief could exploit.

The Crafter is increasingly popular in trade fleets, where companies run multiple vehicles. The no-modification requirement keeps fleet management straightforward — cages can be added to new vehicles without voiding any warranties or requiring paperwork with the leasing company.

For builders and plumbing firms running Crafters day-in, day-out, the cage pays for itself the first time it prevents a significant tool theft on site.

Installation

Fitted to Your VW Crafter in Under 30 Minutes

The Crafter's wide rear doors and accessible floor anchor points make for a clean, efficient installation. Two fitters working together have the mid cage in place quickly.

01

Open the Crafter's Rear Doors Fully

The Crafter's twin rear doors open wide, giving excellent access to the load bay. With the doors at 270° if space allows, sliding the mid cage panels in is a straightforward two-person operation.

02

Load and Assemble the Mid Cage Panels

The mid cage arrives in sections that are fed through the Crafter's rear opening. Once inside, the sections are assembled against the bulkhead end of the load bay. The 2017+ Crafter's flat load floor makes positioning and alignment quick.

03

Bolt to the Crafter's Floor Anchor Points

VW built the Crafter with factory floor lashing points throughout the load bay. The cage bolts directly to these — no drilling, no cutting, no alterations. The Crafter's floor is left in factory condition throughout the process.

04

Attach the Sliding Door Panel

The side panel is secured into the Crafter's sliding door frame without drilling. It prevents side-door access to the secured zone and completes the cage's security coverage around the full bulkhead area.

05

Final Check and the Van's Back on the Road

All bolts confirmed tight, lock mechanism checked, side panel verified secure. The Crafter is ready for work. Under 30 minutes and every modification is entirely reversible — ideal for fleet vehicles.
