The Vito's narrower load bay makes it the ideal van for our compact cage. A perfect fit — securing your tools without wasting a millimetre of space, fitted in under 30 minutes with no drilling.
The Vito's load bay is noticeably narrower than a Sprinter or Transit — it's one of the things that makes it such a nimble van in town. But that narrower width means the mid cage would be an awkward fit. The compact cage at 1,180mm arch-to-arch sits comfortably within the Vito's wheel arch profile.
The Vito is popular with electricians, security installers, and alarm fitters — trades where the van is typically owner-operated rather than part of a fleet. That means the tools inside represent a real personal investment. A compact cage is a proportionate, cost-effective answer to that risk.
Because the compact cage is lighter than the mid, a single fitter can comfortably handle the installation in the Vito without needing assistance.
The compact cage is well-suited to the Vito's load bay dimensions. A clean, simple process that a single fitter handles with ease.
Open the Vito's twin rear doors fully. Even with the Vito's shorter rear aperture compared to larger vans, the compact cage panels slide in cleanly without any awkward manoeuvring.
The compact cage sections are fed through the rear opening and assembled inside the Vito's load bay. The 1,180mm arch-to-arch measurement is specifically chosen to clear the Vito's inner wheel arches without interference.
The Mercedes Vito has factory-fitted lashing rings in the load bay floor. These take the cage bolts directly — no drilling, no modification of the van's structure. The floor is left completely intact.
The side panel is fitted to the Vito's sliding door aperture. It covers the gap at the side and prevents reaching into the cage area even when the sliding door is opened. No drilling into the door frame.
A final tighten-up of all connections, a test of the lock mechanism, and the job is complete. The Vito is ready to work with — tools secured, van unmarked, under 30 minutes from start to finish.
